Facebook formats
Facebook feed posts, carousels, Reels, and Stories with recommended ratios and safe zones.
Facebook organic reach often favors taller stills and vertical Reels. Use these defaults when you ask for Facebook content.
Feed post
Best default for organic stills: 4:5 at 1080×1350.
Useful alternates:
- 1:1 square
- 1.91:1 (about 1200×630) when the post is mainly a link preview card
How to ask:
- “Facebook feed post, 4:5 image, friendly caption, clear CTA, no link card.”
If you are sharing a URL and want a classic link preview look, say so and ask for landscape 1.91:1.
Carousel
Best default: 4:5, about 5 slides (soft max around 10).
Keep one aspect ratio for every slide. Lead with the strongest visual or claim.
How to ask:
- “Facebook carousel, 5 slides, 4:5, product benefits one per slide, matching style.”
Reel
Best default: 9:16 at 1080×1920.
Typical length guidance: often 3-90 seconds, with audio expected. A practical sweet spot is often around 20-30 seconds.
Leave room for UI on the bottom and right edges. Keep faces and key text in the center-safe area.
How to ask:
- “Facebook Reel, 9:16, about 25 seconds, hook in the first 2 seconds, captions on screen.”
Story
Best default: 9:16 at 1080×1920.
Same vertical habit as Instagram Stories: bake text into the media, keep CTAs away from edges and UI chrome.
How to ask:
- “Facebook Story, 9:16, bold centered title, soft CTA above the bottom UI.”
Caption tips
- Lead with value; Facebook users skim quickly
- Match the visual story; do not rely on the link alone
- For Reels, assume many people watch with sound later or captions first
Common mistakes
- Using wide link-card crops for organic photo posts
- Mixing carousel ratios
- Landscape creatives on Reels/Stories
- Critical text sitting under reaction bars or sticker zones
