Single post
Best default for a single image: 16:9 at about 1200×675.
Useful alternates for more mobile height:
- 3:4
- 9:16
Link cards often display around 1.91:1 (about 1200×628). If the post is mainly a link preview, design for that crop.
How to ask:
- “X post with one 16:9 image, punchy first line, under 200 characters for the hook, clear CTA.”
Thread
Threads are the long-form pattern on X.
Guidance:
- Make tweet 1 a standalone hook
- Aim for about 5-10 beats unless the topic needs more
- One idea per tweet
- Optional image on the first beat when it helps the scroll stop
- Numbering (“1/”, “2/”) is optional; clarity matters more than decoration

- “X thread, 8 tweets, hook first, each tweet self-contained, optional 16:9 image on tweet 1.”
Multi-image posts
You can attach multiple images (up to 4 on a typical post).
Tips:
- Keep a consistent visual style across the set
- Put the strongest frame first
- Prefer the same aspect ratio when possible so the grid looks intentional
- Do not rely on tiny detail that disappears in the multi-image layout
How to ask:
- “X post with 4 images, same 16:9 ratio, before/after style, short caption.”
Video on X
Video can be 16:9 or 9:16. Match the story: landscape for demos and announcements, vertical when you want more feed height on mobile.
Copy habits
- Front-load the point
- Prefer concrete language over vague hype
- Use threads when one post would be a wall of text
- Soft CTAs often outperform hard sells on this network
Common mistakes
- Burying the hook in tweet 3 of a thread
- Overlong single posts that should have been a thread
- Low-contrast images that fail in dark and light themes
